Hi, my name is Shayla Kopp, and I am one of the Summer Reading Program Coordinators for this summer (some of you might remember me from last summer)! I am so excited to be back to create an even better program this year! For those of you that don’t know me, I am a student at the University of Lethbridge, taking a double degree in Indigenous Studies and Education and I’m hoping to teach elementary school when I graduate! I have been a member of the Strathmore Library for longer than I can remember, and reading is one of my favourite hobbies! My top three favourite books right now are The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, Grace Year by Kim Liggett and The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I mostly read young adult fiction but love any and all books, so if you have a recommendation send it my way! I also spend a lot of time playing board games with my family and friends. My top three favourites are Ticket to Ride, Azul Summer Pavilion and Chakras! I love spending time outside, especially camping during the summer, and can’t wait for the hot weather to be here!
I am excited to use everything we learned last summer to make this summer's program even better! I’m hoping to bring some great new experiences for everyone participating in both the Summer Reading Program and Teen Summer Reading Club this year! We have some super exciting activities planned and can’t wait to show them to you! I’m so happy to be back and can’t wait for the summer to start!
Hello! My name is Nickia; some of you may remember me from the LITerary TEENS program last summer; or from a select number of STEAM videos from the fall. I am so excited to continue my journey at the library this summer and meet/reconnect with my co-workers. I study psychology at the University of Alberta and will be entering my third year in the fall. As a result, I know about lifespan development. Combined with the other girls’ expertise, I am sure we can provide a fantastic educational service for the children and teens in the Strathmore area.
I am looking forwards to serving the community and meeting new people thanks to this opportunity. I also have plenty of new ideas for the program that I hope we can explore together. I already know how fun this job can be and how fruitful of an experience it is for professional growth. Please feel free to say hello if you see me around, and let’s get ready for the best Summer Reading Program yet!
Hi, my name is Karissa! I was born and raised in Calgary and will be entering my fourth year as a Cellular, Molecular, and Microbial Biology student at the University of Calgary. After finishing my degree, I hope to get into dental school, with my goal ultimately being to specialize in pediatric dentistry. In my free time, I love being around friends and family, hiking, cooking, and of course, reading!
I am really excited to work at the library this summer as a part of this program. I have always loved reading, with mystery books (specifically Nancy Drew) always being my favourite when I was younger. I look forward to helping encourage kids to grow in their ability and passion for reading in a fun environment!
