Literacy/ELL Practitioner

Strathmore & Area Adult Inclusive Literacy provides confidential one on one and small group tutoring for adults in Wheatland County who would like to improve their literacy skills and English language skills.

Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate an ELL program according to our grant goals and guidelines.

This is a short-term contract with potential for renewal.

Areas of Authority

The Literacy/ELL Practitioner supports CALP funded programming in facilitating learning opportunities based on community needs and priorities. Under the direction of the Executive Director and Literacy Services Coordinator, the Literacy/ELL Practitioner has the authority to direct the approved programs and services.

  • Program Delivery & Reporting

Required Experience/ Skills

  • Knowledge and application of Canadian Language Benchmarks.
  • Have a passion for and understanding of lifelong learning.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that demonstrate the values of learning, respect, integrity, and collaboration.

•2 years experience (in-person delivery) working with adult barriered learners and/or English as a Second Language teaching.  and TESL, (A)TESOL, TEFL, or TEAL certification preferred
(a combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.)

Program Support Specialist

Strathmore & Area Adult Inclusive Literacy provides confidential learning for adults in Wheatland County to help them improve their literacy, learning, and English language skills.

The Program Support Specialist will assist the Program Coordinator with day-to-day operations, Learner Support Services, and other projects to support our goals in accordance with grant guidelines. We are looking for an individual with a passion for lifelong learning and demonstrated administrative skills that can provide a warm and welcoming reception to adults that may have complex needs.

This is a part-time grant funded position with Strathmore Municipal Library until June 30, 2024.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administrative support – Including program registration, class lists & registration reminders.
  • Learner Support Services – front line support offering mentorship, resources, and knowledgeable referrals empowering potential participants to progress towards a variety of relevant adult learning goals.
  • Helping volunteers and facilitators with on-site assistance
  • Support event planning and delivery as required.
  • Record keeping, data entry, and confidential record maintenance
  • Produce newsletters, training & marketing materials, participant certificates etc.
  • Organize meetings, contact participants, booking rooms, catering, and travel arrangements.
  • Supporting and attending events & projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Experience/ Skills

  • Service oriented with a passion for and commitment to lifelong learning.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Digital literacy skills including knowledge of Zoom, Teams and other online platforms.
  • Experience and accuracy in data entry & database management
  • Experience with design software is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload, deal with interruptions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that demonstrate the values of respect, integrity, and collaboration.

Diploma or course work in a related field such as communications, administration, business, computers, or non-profit administration. (A combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.)

Some travel may be required, and a reliable vehicle is essential for this position.

Experience working in the non-profit sector or working with adult barriered learners is a benefit.

Temporary Part-Time Indigenous Programming Coordinators

Two enthusiastic, highly motivated coordinators are required to run Indigenous programming at Strathmore Municipal Library. Anticipated employment will be a 6-week term.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the identification, organization, and delivery of programs and story times for residents of Strathmore and Siksika Nation.
  • Promote and market Indigenous programs and services within the community by creating handouts, posters, social media posts, and visiting schools.
  • Assist with physical displays of Indigenous resources.
  • Compile and maintain program statistics, output measures, success stories, etc.
  • Manage a program budget.
  • Comply with safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in or returning to a First Nations school or post-secondary institution.
  • Enthusiastic about great books and intriguing stories.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement programs for people of all ages.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, supervising volunteers as required.
  • Experience in programming is an asset, as is experience with music, drama, crafts, and/or storytelling.
  • Successful applicants must produce a criminal record check.

 

Hours of work: 20-25 hours per week

Wage: $17/hr
